The Gold Sea Takeaway
If you're in the mood for a quick bite in Edinburgh and want something that hits the spot without any fuss, The Gold Sea Takeaway on Ferry Road is the kind of place worth knowing about. Located at 137-141 Ferry Rd., EH6 4ET, this spot is a go-to for locals and solo diners looking for hearty meals, fast service, and options that go beyond your average chip shop.
One of the biggest draws? It serves halal food and stays open late, making it a reliable option whether you're craving something for lunch, dinner, or even a post-midnight munch. No dine-in available? No problem. With delivery and takeaway both on offer, The Gold Sea Takeaway caters perfectly to those who want comfort food without leaving the couch-or the car.
Now let’s talk food, because that’s where this place shines. Pizza might not be the first thing you expect at a traditional UK-style chippy, but their version has built a loyal following. The crust is nicely done, with a satisfying bite, and toppings are generously scattered-none of that "where’s the pepperoni?" moment.
If you're into Scottish classics, the Small Fish Supper is one of those dishes you could order on repeat. Crispy golden batter, flaky fish inside, and chips that actually taste like potatoes (imagine that). For those who like their food fried to perfection, Tempura and the Calzone make for surprisingly tasty detours from the typical menu, adding a bit of variety without getting too fancy.
And then there’s the 10 Munchy Box, which, if you haven’t tried yet, is pretty much a rite of passage. It’s a no-holds-barred mix of all things deep-fried and delicious: think chicken wings, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, nuggets, and more, usually tossed into one glorious box of excess. Great for sharing-or not, we’re not judging.
Parents will appreciate that kids’ meals are thoughtfully included too. The Kids Smoked Sausage & Chips combo is a hit with younger eaters and a solid value for money. It's straightforward, filling, and prepared with care, just like the rest of the menu.
Accessibility-wise, The Gold Sea Takeaway makes it easy for many guests with its wheelchair-accessible entrance, although it doesn’t have seating that’s specifically designed for wheelchair users. But with no dine-in anyway, most people are in and out-or waiting on a delivery guy-so it’s not likely to be a deal-breaker.
What sets this place apart from other takeaways around Edinburgh? For one, speed and consistency. Orders tend to be prepared fast, whether you're picking up or having it delivered, and the portion sizes are generous without feeling over the top. It's clear they understand their customers want something tasty, filling, and ready when promised.
Another plus is their appeal to solo diners. The portion sizes suit one person really well, and the menu avoids the usual over-complicated combos. Whether you want just a quick bag of chips, a full-on pizza meal, or something deep-fried and comforting, it’s easy to make a choice and not feel overwhelmed.
And let’s not forget the late-night appeal. Plenty of takeaways claim to be open late, but The Gold Sea Takeaway actually delivers on that. Whether you’re finishing up work late, heading home from a night out, or just in need of something indulgent at 10 PM, this place stays open to serve.
If you’re browsing menus, weighing dinner options, or looking for reliable halal takeaway in Edinburgh, The Gold Sea Takeaway deserves a spot on your shortlist. It’s a solid mix of classic comfort, a few unexpected gems, and the kind of fast, no-nonsense service that busy city life demands.

Been coming here for years. You will not find a better fresher thicker! Piece of fish in Edinburgh. Stuart ... the fryer here for years cooks them to perfection. Regardless of how busy he is hes always smiling. The girls are amazing too. The food across the board is amazing but it’s fish and chips all day long for me from this place. My brother comes from glasgow to eat from this place.
I was craving kebab, I have tried couple around, but never from these place. I wanted chicken wrap, but after service suggestion I have went for mixed wrap £(lamb, shish and chicken). It was huge(pic). I have anihilated it within couple minutes. Dont know what kind of sauce it was(normalny its garlick, Spicy or mixed) but really completed the dish. Lovely service and clean place. I will come back
